 Background Packaging Issues

Boehringer Ingelheim was encountering serious problems with their current supply of corrugated cartons passing through their automated carton erecting machinery. The cartons were constantly misfeeding, creating major downtime on one of their critical pharmaceutical packing lines.

Our Analysis

Our design team at StorePAK Corrugated analysed the current packaging design to see how we could improve Boehringer Ingelheim cartons to mitigate this problem. Our analysis highlighted an issue with the creasing of the cartons. StorePAK Corrugated redesigned the cartons, incorporating easy fold creases and perforations, whilst specifying a new performance grade corrugated board.

The End Result

To make sure our new designs would meet the required standard, prototypes were produced and submitted for testing. The new designs completely eradicated the constant misfeeding previously encountered and were placed into production immediately. Additionally, StorePAK Corrugated was nominated (and won!) Boehringer Ingelheim’s supplier of the year award.
